Lodging (Area Code 603)
Since the Sunapee Region has been a summer resort for more than a century, there is a good collection of lodging nearby. But there is no on-slope lodging. The newest property is the Mountain Edge Resort & Spa at Sunapee (763-4600, 877-468-3343; $$$$), an Adirondack-style resort located just off the access road to Mount Sunapee. Offering one- and two-bedroom units complete with kitchens, the resort also features indoor and outdoor heated pools, sauna, spa, hot tub, plus a recreation room and a full-service lounge. Across the street (Route 103) is its sister property, the Best Western Sunapee Lake Lodge (763-2010, 800-606-5253; $$-$$$$), a traditional hotel/motel with 55 rooms that were redecorated in 2006. The lodge has an indoor pool, fitness room, lighted ice skating, and sledding on site.
The closest inn to Sunapee is the Blue Goose Inn B&B (763-5519; $$) with five comfortable rooms. The 1806 Inn at Mount Sunapee B&B (763-5519; $$-$$$) is in a newly renovated delightful farmhouse. The owners collect antiquarian books, so not only is there plenty to read, but the rooms are named after New England writers (Robert Frost, Thoreau, etc.). In nearby New London, the New London Inn (526-2791; $$$-$$$$), on the town green, was built in 1792 and has 23 rooms decorated and updated for the 21st century. The Maple Hill Farm (526-2248; $$-$$$) is a 10-room country B&B that's great for families or small groups. The Blue Acorn Inn (863-1144; $$), in Sunapee, is four miles from the resort and has "homey" 6 rooms with themes from safari to Victorian to "mountain cabin."
New Hampshire's capital, Concord, is just a 35-mile drive to the resort and offers full-service hotels -- a Holiday Inn and a Hampton Inn to name two. For more lodging options, visit www.mtsunapee.com.
